Dr. Patrick Whelan specializes in treatment of urologic cancers and kidney stone disease. He performs robotic surgical treatment of prostate and kidney cancer, adrenal surgery, enlarged prostates, ureteral obstruction/ureteral stricture disease. Additionally, he focuses on the metabolic medical management of kidney stone disease, offering both minimally invasive surgeries to treat complex kidney stones as well as long-term management of stone disease.
Dr. Whelan completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of Illinois, graduating Cum Laude with a major in Chemical Engineering. He attended medical school at Rush Medical College before completing an internship and urology residency at Rush University Medical Center. From there, Dr. Whelan completed his fellowship training at Duke University specializing in Endourology & Robotic Surgery. Dr. Whelan has presented at local, regional, national and international conferences. He has published several peer-reviewed articles in national and international academic journals.
Dr. Whelan is a member of the American Urological Association, the Mid-Atlantic Section of the AUA, the Endourology Society, and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society. He is board certified by the American Board of Urology. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family, traveling, cooking, playing and watching sports, reading, skiing and spending time at the beach.
