After completing medical education at Tehran University in Iran, Dr. Baradaran moved to the Pacific coast of Canada where his immediate family currently resides. He then completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland prior to urologic residency training at Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He then proceeded to pursue sub-specialty training in genitourinary trauma and reconstruction at UCSF in San Francisco, California. He was then recruited by the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, where in addition to performing all aspects of GU reconstruction, he spearheaded the only academic, multi-specialty program for gender-affirming surgery in Central Ohio.
Dr. Baradaran is a board certified urologist and has numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. He is active in Society of Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgeons (GURS) and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international conferences. He is also passionate about medical student and resident education to train future leaders of the field. His clinical and research areas of interest include transmasculine and transfeminine gender-affirming surgery, urethral stricture reconstruction, genital reconstruction, including buried penis repair, male urinary incontinence, and complex bladder and ureter reconstruction via open or robotic approach.
Dr. Baradaran joins us here with his wife, Dr. Kate Byron, who is an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at EVMS. When not at work, he enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, cycling, sailing, and tinkering with old cars.
